Janet Hoose

April 26, 1931 — December 3, 2015

Janet V. Hoose, 84, of Saranac Lake, N.Y. passed away on December 3, 2015 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born April 26, 1931 in Malone, N.Y. she was the daughter of Overton and Lora (Neeley) Vandivier. She married Edgar Hoose, Jr. on August 25, 1951.

Janet is survived by her beloved fur baby, Vicky and her children David Hoose (Kimberly) of Watertown, NY, Mary McLean (Dan) of Lake Clear, NY. and Lorna Haralalka (Nero) of Mebane, N.C. and 10 grandchildren (Johnny McLean (Trisha Wickwire), Jason McLean Hamilton, Alec McLean, Kaylee McLean, Lacey Desormeau (Dan), Kyle Hoose (Destiny Walker), Sunita Haralalka, Angelique Ryan (Matthew McGinley), Shawn Ryan (Marla), Ian Haralalka and, 11 ¾ great grandchildren (Alyssa, Abigail, Adreaonna, Kaytlyn, Elliot, Duncan, Colby, Tristan, London, Isabella, Dylan, and Olivia (coming soon).

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edgar in 2001 just days short of their 50th wedding anniversary, her parents and her brother, Ronald Vandivier.

Janet was active in the Watertown Duplicate Bridge Club, belonged to the Celebration Singers of Holy Family, and was an original member of the Newcomers Club of Watertown. She enjoyed writing and won "The Voice of Democracy" State contest at the age of 16. During high school she was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa Sorority and many of her sisters remained life-long friends. She enjoyed giving to others and supported many faith-based charities. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and at the House of the Good Samaritan Hospital. She loved having fun, making people laugh, cooking and pulling practical jokes on her husband and other unsuspecting family members! Janet loved music and traveling – especially to Disney World, Hawaii and on various cruises.

Janet moved to Saranac Village at Will Rogers in July 2014 after residing in Mebane, N.C. for 12 years, the Villages of Lady Lake, Fla. for seven years, and Watertown, N.Y. where she and her husband lived for 40 years and raised their children. Janet enjoyed her time at Will Rogers and especially loved “Happy Time” and sharing Vicky with all of her Will Rogers’ friends.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake on Monday, December 7, 2015 from 3 to 6 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. John’s in the Wilderness in Lake Clear at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 8 with Father Paul Kelley officiating, followed by a celebration of Janet’s life in the church hall immediately after the mass.
