John A. Helmer, age 67, of 264 McComb Street, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, April 02, 2015 at the Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake, NY.
Born in Evansville, Indiana on August 01, 1947, he was the son of John and Lillian (Schenk) Helmer.
John had been a resident of Saranac Lake for over 40 years and had been employed by Orville Paye at the Gold Mine in Saranac Lake for many years. John is a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War on a submarine from 1965 to 1969.
He is survived by his life time companion of 40 years Dorothy Ormsby of Saranac Lake, one daughter Cecilia Marie Hunt and her husband Shad of Saranac Lake and one grandson Ayden Hunt of Saranac Lake. He was predeceased by his father, mother and 3 sisters.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in the spring at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
