Robert K. Hagar, age 84, of 1264 Pine Street, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on November 15, 1927, he was the son of Paul and Katherine (Bell) Hagar. Robert married Joan Vollmers on December 13, 1952 in Rutherford, NJ. She predeceased him in 1968. Robert later married Jacklyn Hickey on September 27, 1969.
Robert attended and graduated from Syracuse College of Forestry in 1950 with a Bachelors degree in Forestry. He worked for the New York State Board of Equalization and Assessment as a Forester for 36 years until his retirement in 1982. Robert was an avid bird watcher his entire life and traveled extensively to many different countries looking for birds. He was an all around outdoorsman and had enjoyed hunting, fishing, birding, botany, Gardener and skier. He is a veteran of the United States Navy serving at the end of World War II.
He is survived by his wife Jacklyn Hagar of Saranac Lake, NY, three sons Robert Hagar of Jay, NY, William Hagar and his wife Darlene of Lewis, NY, and Thomas Hagar and his wife Amy of Saranac Lake, NY, one brother Arthur Hagar and wife Jean of Taylors, SC, five grandchildren, Todd, Nick, Ben, Rebecca and Courtney, three great grandchildren Chad, Hazel and Elijah and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one son David Hagar, and one brother Paul Hagar.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday May 29, 2012 at Mountain View Cemetery in Upper Jay with Rev. Joyce Bruce officiating.
