Gary Gunther

Gary Gunther, age 65, of 66 Olive Street, Saranac Lake, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Binghamton, NY on January 11, 1946, he was the son of Raymond and Ruth (Wagner) Gunther. He married Sharon Catillaz on June 16, 1973 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.

Gary attended and graduated from Clarkson University with a masters Degree in Civil Engineering. He had been employed for the New York State Department of Health and later for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation until his retirement in 2004. Gary was very active in youth sports in Saranac Lake coaching Little League Baseball, Youth Soccer, and serving as a commissioner for Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and especially loved spending time with and walking his dog Dakota. Gary is a member of the Saranac Lake Elks Club BPOE 1508 and had competed in the Friday Night Bowling League in Saranac Lake.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Gunther of Saranac Lake, NY, one son Jason Gunther of Plantation, FL, two daughters Jodi Gunther-Delosh and Jaime Gunther both of Saranac Lake, NY, his mother Ruth Gunther of Binghamton, NY and two grandchildren Dylan Gunther and Chayse Emerson Delosh both of Saranac Lake, NY. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, September 23, 2011 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. An Elks service will take place at 6:50 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM at the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday September 26, 2011 at the South Street Cemetery in Triangle, NY.
