Daniel (Bird) Guiney, 63, suffered a fatal heart attack early Monday morning, March 7, 2011.
Born in Tupper Lake on November 30, 1947, he was the son of Richard and Catherine (Yeskosle) Guiney.
Dan graduated from Holy Ghost Academy. He enlisted in the US Army in August 1966. He was stationed in Germany for a time, before going to Viet Nam. He served two tours there and was honorably discharged in June 1969.
Dan loved his family and friends. In recent years his greatest enjoyment was visiting with his friends and listening to music.
He is survived by a daughter, Janelle Lavigne, and granddaughter Ava of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by his three brothers, Richard and his wife, Ellen of Tupper Lake; John and his wife, Jessica of Chittenango; Robert and his wife Laurie of Tupper Lake; two sisters, Mary (Guiney) Savard and husband Roy of Tupper Lake and Karen (Guiney) Sennette and husband, Lance of Phoenix, Az. Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
His parents, Richard and Catherine Guiney, predeceased him.
There will be a burial service at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in May. A notice will be in the Free Press when a date is decided upon.
