Allen L. Greene, 73, of Saranac Lake and formerly of Sidney, N.Y., died on Thursday September 15, 2016.
He was born on June 28, 1943, to the late Arthur B. and Dorothy (Lee) Greene in Sidney. Also predeceased by his stepfather Arthur Weeden.
Allen attended Sidney Central High School. He joined The United States Army, trained at Fort Dix and was transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, for advanced training in motor mechanics before being transferred to Germany. Allen traveled extensively while in Europe during his tour.
For several years, Allen, owned and operated the Flying A Gas Station and Garage in Sidney, New York.
Allen married, Ronda Hoyt in Sidney, New York in 1969. Allen later remarried, Kristin Mathewson Philpott, whom he married in August 1979 in Saranac Lake, NY. She predeceased him in 2011.
Allen was very active with the Sidney Elks Lodge 2175, working his way thru to Exalted Ruler.
In 1968, Allen along with his cousin Glen Odone, Jon Fust and Val Fust bought Red Pine Lodge on Miller pond in Saranac Lake.
In 1976, Allen moved to Saranac Lake. He was employed by Davey Chevrolet as an auto mechanic and then service manager.
Allen worked with the 1980 Winter Olympic Games, as a driver and with the Ceremonial Committee, as in the rising of the flags at the award ceremony.
In April of 1980, Allen was employed by Pyrofax/Amerigas Propane Gas Co. from which he retired.
Allen served as a member and Commander of the American Legion Post 447 and was Legionnaire of the Year in 1998. He was also a member of the Saranac Lake Veterans of Foreign wars and the Saranac Lake Moose Lodge.
Allen is survived by his children Holly Lynge of Saranac Lake, Karen (Dan) Woodruff of Saranac Lake, Ronald Philpott of Hampton, NH, Mark (Deborah) Philpott of Sidney, New York and Lorraine (David) Thompson of Walton, New York.
Several beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His sister Patricia Greene of Unadilla, New York, and two brothers, John and Phyllis Greene of Newark, New York, Paul and Dale Greene of Jacksonville, Fla. and sister-in-law Fume Greene of Oceanside, Calf. He is predeceased by one brother Claude.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. As per Allen’s wishes there will be no calling hours or services.

Interment will be in the historic Evergreen Cemetery, at White Store, New York at the convenience of the family and at that time there will be a celebration of life for both Kris and Al.
