Ronald K. Gladd, age 72, formerly of Saranac Lake and residing in Penfield, NY, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Saranac Lake on November 5, 1941, Ron was the son of Lee and Merilda (LaMare) Gladd. Ron married Marty Finn, also of Saranac Lake, on January 3, 1961at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. For the past 57 years Marty and Ron have been best friends, enjoying 52 years of marriage together. Ron is survived by his son Tom, his wife Michelle (Maloney) and their children Alec, Dylan and Samantha, daughter Leslie, her husband Jim Lajoie, and their children Cylie, Melody, Corey, Sara, Clare and Peter, daughter Hilary and her husband Peter Ross, and daughter Nancy, her husband Derek McLaughlin and their children Kane, Ronald, Derek Jr., and Marion. Ron is also survived by his sister, Jeanne (Gladd) Duso of Bradenton FL, brother-in-law Leon Harvey Jr., sisters-in-law, Carol Gladd and Charlotte Gladd all of Saranac Lake. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and other extended family members. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Ron was predeceased by his wife, Marty, father, mother and seven siblings.
Possessing a quiet and dignified manner, Ron was successful in all of his endeavors. He attended St. Lawrence University to play hockey, served four years in the United States Air Force before returning to Saranac Lake to nurture his true calling, being a teacher, mentor, father, family man and dedicated member of the Saranac Lake community. A lifelong participant in the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association, Ron’s other passions were fly fishing and golf which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. His warm and accepting nature afforded him many opportunities to touch the lives of many, many people within the community. While his nature was calm and quiet, he maintained high expectations for himself, his family and all of those who called him his friend. He was a man of tremendous love, profound loyalty, and innumerable talents... Ron was a true renaissance man who will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Church at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 29, 2014.
