Michael G. Gladd, age 52, of Overlook Apartments in Bloomingdale, NY, died suddenly from a heart attack at his home on Tuesday, March 23, 2010.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on April 23, 1957, he was the son of Richard and Carol (Stott) Gladd.
Michael graduated from the Saranac Lake High School in 1975. He worked as a sales representative for NAPA for several years before moving to California in 1987. He returned to the area in 1997 and was a great comfort to his parents. He suffered a life altering fall in 1998. Michael was an avid chess player and was a member of the Lake Flour Bakery Chess Club. Michael was also a writer and poet. He had written one book called Four Years of Me and was currently working on a 2nd book.
He is survived by his mother Carol Gladd of Bloomingdale; one son Jeffrey Green of Austin, TX, one step-son Loren Green of Watsonville, CA, one step daughter Kim Green of Richmond, VA; three sisters Tina Clark and her husband John of Vermontville, Patti Finlayson and her husband Dale of Loon Lake and Michelle Simmons and her husband Joe of Bloomingdale; and one sister-in-law Laurie Schuler and husband Thom of Austin, TX. In addition to many friends he is also survived by his former wife Carolyn Green of Watsonville, CA; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins and his two furry friends Zap and Fray. He was preceded in death by his father Richard "Dick" Gladd.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Maggie McCarey officiating. A reception will follow at the Community Room at the Overlook Apartments in Bloomingdale.
