Mark Robert Garrow, 55, formerly of Plattsburgh died Wednesday June 16, 2010 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
He was born on November 3, 1954, the son of Robert and Patricia Garrow.
He graduated from Plattsburgh High School excelling both as a student and athlete. He was awarded the Most Valuable Player Award in the Champlain Valley Basketball League in his senior year. After high school he attended Peddie Prep School in Hightstown, New Jersey, where he again excelled as a student athlete. He was named to the second team All-New Jersey Prep School Basketball League during his stay at Peddie Prep School. In 1979 he was commissioned as an officer in the United States Naval Air Intelligence Program and remained as a naval officer, reaching the rank of Commander. During his stay in the navy he served under a number of commands including the CIA, Officer's Naval Intelligence, Defense Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency, and the Naval Reserve's Intelligence Command. One of his honors while serving included the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. Upon retirement from the navy, he and his wife developed an in-service provider contract with the federal government dealing in intelligence.
Mark is survived by his wife Gail; his son Matthew and his wife Natilie; his son, Jakob and friend, Liz Wetmore; his parents, Robert and Patricia: his sister, Wendy Davidson and husband, Brian; his brother, Guy and his fiancé, Jennifer Ledell; a sister, Kathleen Elbrecht and her husband James; a brother-in-law, Scott Allan, and his wife, Corrine; a sister-in-law, Sue Tallard and her husband Paul: a sister-in-law, Lynn Hunter and her husband, Robert. Included are a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is set to take place on Saturday July 10 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Burgundy Room, Route 3 Plattsburgh, NY (Across the street from the former Clinton County Airport. Local arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in care of the funeral home.
