Catherine Gadway, age 90, of Saranac Lake passed away peacefully on Saturday December 24, 2016 in her home surrounded by her friends and family while under Hospice Care.
Cathy was born in Plattsburgh NY on January 22, 1926.
Cathy is survived by her beloved best friend Henry LaPan, nephew David Gadway, her long time friend Laurie Johnson, and many beloved caregivers including her “sweetie” Brian Fortune. She was predeceased by both her mother and father and all 5 siblings. Cathy was a member of the Saranac Lake Adult Center and a strong Catholic who was part of the St. Bernard’s church. Cathy’s faith was exemplified threw her dedication to her family and home. Cathy truly believed in giving back to others instead of receiving. She was a constant donator to the food pantry, Local hospital, and humane society. Cathy attended Lake Placid school, and once finished with schooling she began working in the restaurant business. She worked at the Howard Johnson’s and the hungry trout for many years before she decided she would like to retire. Cathy was a regular at the McKenzie’s Bar and Grill on Wednesdays and enjoyed her Dunkin Donut coffees daily. Cathy loved meeting new people and treating them as if they were family right from the start. Cathy was never seen without with nails and hair complete. She took pride in her long beautiful hair for her age. Cathy had a true compassion for children and babies, she loved spending time with them and giving them gifts.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday January 2, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will take place in North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
Flowers can be brought to Fortune-Keough Funeral home, and in memory of Cathy all donations can be sent to High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care.
