Louis “Gary” Fournier, age 69, of 116 Prospect Ave., Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Adirondack Medical Center.
Born in Plattsburgh, New York on July 26, 1946, he was the son of Louis J. and Regina (Gauthier) Fournier. Louis married Lauretta Barie on July 26, 1974 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.
Gary had been a resident of Saranac Lake for over 40 years and had worked as a Corrections Officer for the New York State Department of Corrections at various correctional facilities throughout the state including Adirondack Correctional in Ray Brook and Camp Gabriels until his retirement in 2009. He was a graduate of Hudson Valley Community College and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970. Gary was committed and dedicated to serving his country. He was also a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Lauretta, of Saranac Lake; four daughters, Lori Sullivan and her husband Kevin of Malverne, Long Island, Rebecca Smith and her husband James of Kensington, NH, Whitney Anderson and her husband David of Framingham, MA, and Erica Uriarte and her husband Christopher of Framingham, MA; eight grandchildren (Delaney and James Smith, Daniel, Ryan and Timothy Sullivan, Brennan, Grace and Langdon Anderson); and three sisters Marlene D'Aloisio of North Babylon, LI, Sharon Fournier of Menands, NY, and Amy Eglin and her husband Tim of Chatham, NY.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the FortuneKeough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday October 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery in Redford, NY.
