French Foster

French Shriver Foster, 89, of 34 Deer Path Lane, Saranac Lake, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Baltimore, Md. on Feb. 25, 1924, she was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (French) Shriver. She married John Walter Smith Foster Jr. on Sept. 15, 1947, at Pikesville, Md. He predeceased her in November 2008.

French had been a longtime resident of Saranac Lake, where she owned and operated the Lonesome Landing Garden Center. She was also member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by three sons: John Walter Smith Foster III and his wife Katherine of Queenstown, Md., Charles Shriver Foster of Hampstead, Md., and Lee French Foster of Saranac Lake; and one grandson, John Walter Smith Foster IV.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Mayor Shriver.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday January 18, 2013 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
