Margaret L. Ayotte Burman Fortune, age 96, died Friday, January 15, 2010 at her home in Bloomingdale, N. Y.
Born in Morrisonville, New York on March 10, 1913, she was the daughter of Frank and Delia (LaGoy) Ayotte.
She married Richard C. Burman on November 29, 1932. He predeceased her on April 17, 1952. She later married Arthur Fortune on May 11, 1985 at St. Bernard's Church. He predeceased her February 11, 2001.
Mrs. Fortune worked as a waitress at Trudeau Sanitarium where she met her first husband Richard C. Burman. She also worked as a Sewing Machine Operator at the Dress Factory in both Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake. She was a Charter member of the Saranac Lake Adult Center; a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Bernard's Church. She taught religion and had served on the Harrietstown Housing Authority. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, sewing and cooking.
She is survived by her sons Victor C. Burman and his wife Donna of Vermontville, NY; Gordon A. Burman and his wife Louise of Kirkville, NY; Ross Burman and his wife Barbara of Kirkville, NY; Thomas Burman and his companion Diane McKeough of Bloomingdale, NY. Her daughters Susanne Wright and her husband Richard of Saranac Lake, NY and Alice Celello and husband Michael of Valatie, NY. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law Lillian Burman of Saranac Lake, NY; 20 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son Richard Burman; three brothers James, Ross, and Victor Ayotte and three sisters Olive Trombley, Hazel Oshier and Mary LaBarge of Tupper Lake, NY.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday Janaury 18, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Catholic Daughters service will take place at 7:00 PM on Monday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday January 19, 2010 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. C.J. McAvoy officiating. Burial will take place in the spring.
