Marie D. Fogarty, age 95, of Saranac Lake, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at AMC-Uihlein Center in Lake Placid where she had been a resident since 1998.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on April 09, 1915, she was the daughter of Syriac and Etta (McGrain) Dupree, Jr.
She married Richard "Dick" Betters on March 1, 1935 at the St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. He predeceased her September 19, 1963. She later married Edward J. Fogarty on July 28, 1965 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. He predeceased her on April 9, 1988. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1932. She owned and operated the Algonquin Bar and Grill Restaurant in Saranac Lake for 47 years until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the 3rd Order of St. Francis.
She is survived by two children Patricia McClure of Elizabeth, NC, and Richard B. Betters, Jr. of Severn, MD, one sister Elizabeth Doyle of Saranac Lake, NY, 6 grandchildren Kathleen York of Camden, NC, Pamula Keen of Tarpon Springs, FL, James A. McClure of St. Petersburg, FL, Richard C. Betters of Pasadena, MD, and Lori B. Baugh of Pine Apple, AL, 4 great grandchildren Samanatha N. Betters, Kimberely J. Betters, Brian Moore and Natalie Moore and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, 9 brothers and sisters Muriel “Babs” Anson, Eileen Woods, Leona Dupree, William Dupree, Bernard Dupree, Paul Dupree, Donald Dupree, Raymond Dupree, and Robert Dupree, and one granddaughter Robin McClure.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, September 3, 2010 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A bible vigil service will take place at 6:45 PM Friday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 4, 2010 at St. Bernard Church in Saranac Lake, with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
