Veronica “Vera” Finegan, age 80, of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at AMC-Uihlein in Lake Placid where she had been a resident since July.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 06, 1931, she was the daughter of Victor and Mary Agnes (McDermott) Lashway. She married Richard Finegan on August 14, 1965 in St. Bernard's Church. He predeceased her on December 27, 2003.
Vera worked as a School Nurse Teacher for the Saranac Lake Central School District for 49 years in the Petrova Elementary School until her retirement. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard, High Peaks Hospice Volunteer, very active in St. Bernard's parish, Saranac Lake Elks BPOE 1508, and was active in golf and bowling leagues. Vera was crowned Queen of the 2009 Winter Carnival.
She is survived by one son Timothy Finegan of Saranac Lake, NY, one sister Marie Derby of Saranac Lake, NY, many nieces and nephews, and one brother-in-law Jack Finegan of Saranac Lake, NY.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A Catholic Daughters service will take place at 6:45 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday October 15, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
