Mary Martha Finegan, age 77, of 2000 State Route 86, Saranac Lake, died Friday, October 29, 2010 at her home.
Born in Hackensack, New Jersey on October 21, 1933, she was the daughter of David and Anna (Janetchek) James. She married John E. (Jack) Finegan on September 28, 1957 in St. Bernard's Church by Msgr. Peter Riani.
Mrs. Finegan had worked as a cashier for Saranac Lake Central School District at the Middle and High School Cafeterias from 1971 until her retirement in 1997. Prior to that, she had been employed by the Prudential Insurance Company in New Jersey, Beneficial Finance, her parents store the Berkley Delicatessen, the New York State Conservation Department, the S.L. Loan Company and Sears. She had also volunteered and later was employed as the bookkeeper for the Adirondack Regional Airport from 1977 to 1993. Mrs. Finegan was a lector and volunteer at St. John's and St. Gabriels Roman Catholic Churches. She delighted in sewing, knitting and quilting. She especially enjoyed knitting baby hats and booties for the Saranac Lake Adult Center. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was an award winning bowler and curler.
She is survived by her husband Jack Finegan of Saranac Lake, NY, three sons Michael J. Finegan and his wife Virginia of Pittsburgh, PA, David C. Finegan and his wife Kaarina of Manchester, CT, and Robert F. Finegan and his wife Anne of Montpellier, VT., as well as a daughter, Patricia A. Coppola and her husband Ed of Los Vegas, NV, one sister Veronica Conway and her husband Michael of Westport, CT, five grandchildren Michael J. Jr., Margaret Catherine, Kathleen Rose, Angela Maeve, and Fletcher Forbes, along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Fletcher David Finegan, her father, mother and one sister, Florence Franklin.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 2 PM – 4 PM and 6 PM – 8 PM. A bible vigil service is set to take place at 3:45 PM on Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM, at St. John’s Church in Lake Clear with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
