Sylvia M. Farmer, age 82, of Saranac Lake, died peacefully Sunday, October 9, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.
Born in Muncy, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1939, she was the daughter of Frank and Melva (Confer) Smith. Sylvia married Robert J. Farmer on May 9, 1959 in Muncy, PA. He predeceased her on February 18, 2009.
Sylvia worked at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid for over 35 years as a Unit Secretary. She later worked at Kinney Drugs in Saranac Lake for 17 years until her retirement. She often returned to her hometown in Pennsylvania; she spoke fondly of her time with her sisters, brother, and families. In recent years, she loved their weekly family Zoom Call. Sylvia was an avid fisherman and sports fan. She could often be found cheering for Syracuse basketball, rooting for the kids in the Little League World Series, and of course, she was a dedicated Saranac Lake Red Storm fan. Look, and you would find Sylvia under the score board at football games, postured in the bleachers of the High School Gym, and squarely behind the net in the Civic Center. She loved nothing more than to cheer for her sons and grandchildren. Above all, Sylvia’s favorite occasions were when her whole Farmer family was together, most notably for Christmas. Her house was loud, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She is survived by four sons Mark (Sharon) Farmer of Lake Clear, Robert (Colleen) Farmer of Saranac Lake, Michael (Laurie) Farmer of Palm Coast, FL, and Troy (Elizabeth) Farmer of Vermontville, one brother Allen Smith, three sisters Carol (Bill) Hughes, Lucy (Glen) Temple, and Ina (Rodney) Phillips; 12 Grandchildren Erin (Andrew) Tinti, Ryan (Ally), Jason, Justin and Morgan Farmer, Stacey (Matt) Reynolds, Kristy and Marisa Farmer, and Kamryn, Tyler, Riley and Karley Amell, one great grandson Gordon Reynolds and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A brief memorial service will immediately follow at 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Friends wishing to remember Sylvia Farmer may make memorial contributions to High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home. Family and friends may also share their condolences at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
