Gary Duprey

Gary John Duprey, age 76, currently of Plattsburgh NY, formerly of Wilmington NY passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday May 31, 2023.

Gary was born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 10, 1946, the son of Clarence and Mary (D''Onofrio) Duprey.

Gary was a graduate of Paul Smiths College of Forestry. He was hired by the NYS Adirondack Park Agency in 1972 and worked for the agency for nearly 31 years retiring as an Associate Project Review Specialist.

Gary was a past member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, a past member of the Saranac Lake Elks Club BPOE 1508 and a current member of the Keeseville Elks Club.

In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. As well as rowing in the Willard Hanmer guide Boat Races in an Adirondack Guide boat with his brother Tony, where they won the first two man guide boat race.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis (Bishop) Duprey. Three brothers Oliver (Marianne) Duprey of Westport, Anthony Duprey of Saranac Lake, Ronald Duprey of Syracuse and one sister Sally Weaver of Allenwood, NJ., two sisters-in-laws Margaret (Dee Dee) Duprey of Saranac Lake and Kelly Duprey of Saranac Lake and many nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by two brothers Clarence Duprey, Jr. and Dennis “Spider” Duprey.

The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the, care and compassion shown them by all the staff at the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center and Hospice of the North Country.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday June 7, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A fireman’s prayer service and bell ceremony will take place Wednesday evening at 5:50 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday June 8, 2023 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake, with Rev. John Yonkovig officiating. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Keeseville at a later date.
