Mildred Dupree

Mildred S. Dupree, age 93, of 39 Winona Ave., Saranac Lake, died Sunday, January 11, 2015.

Born in West Chazy, New York on May 28, 1921, she was the daughter of John and Alice (Beeman) Swain. She married Paul Dupree on November 29, 1947 in St. Bernard's Church. He predeceased her on January 21, 1990.

Mrs. Dupree attended St. Bernard’s School and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1938. She later attended the University of Albany graduating in 1942, and then completed her Masters at St. Lawrence University in 1953. Mrs. Dupree had been a English teacher at various schools. She had taught at Saranac Lake Central School for over 30 years and had served as head of the English Department until her retirement in 1976. She was an active volunteer at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, the Saranac Lake Free Library; St. Bernard’s School Library and had served on the parish council for St. Bernard’s Church for over 20 years.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews including Susan Smith of Lake Placid, Thomas Swain of Saranac Lake, and Virginia Struss of Saranac Lake and one sister-in-law Elizabeth (Betty) Doyle of Oneonta. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and two brothers Robert and Arthur Swain.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday January 16, 2015 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May.
