Ransom Duncan

Ransom H. Duncan, age 72, of Upper St. Regis Lake, Lake Clear, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, VT.

Born in New York City, New York on November 26, 1937, he was the son of Dyson and Mildred Stokes (Hooker) Duncan. He married Judith S. Fenn on July 6, 1957 at St. John's in the Wilderness in Paul Smiths.

Mr. Duncan’s family has summered on the St. Regis Lakes since the 1880s. After his retirement from Lea and Perrins Inc. in New Jersey he became a year round resident of Upper St Regis Lake. He was an avid sailor who served as Commodore of the St. Regis Yacht Club from 1966 to 1968 and as its Judge for many years. Mr. Duncan was Senior Warden of St. John's in the Wilderness Episcopal Church and also active in the parish of St Luke the Beloved Physician in Saranac Lake, where he sang in the choir and served on the vestry and as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.

He is survived by his wife Judith Duncan of Upper St. Regis Lake, NY; five daughters Barbara Duncan of Upper St. Regis Lake, Beth Berkun of East Greenbush, NY, Melissa Fernau and her husband Mark of Clinton, MA, Laura Duncan and her partner Michele Raville of Upper St. Regis Lake, NY, and Judith Duncan and her partner Kathleen Canzano of Saranac Lake, NY; two sons Ransom E. Duncan and his wife Andrea (Bonfield) of Dexter, MI, and Graham Duncan and his wife Laura (LaTorre) of Portland, ME; two sisters Mildred Baker of Boyce, VA and Diana Hepting of Raleigh, NC; 11 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 19 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake. Interment will take place at St. John's in the Wilderness Cemetery in Paul Smiths at a later date.
