Edward Dukett

Edward James Dukett, 87 passed away at Adirondack Medical Center Tuesday July 16th, 2019, from natural causes.

Edward was born in Saranac Lake to Edward Joseph and Margaret (St. Mary) on August 20th, 1931. He was the oldest of their six children. He graduated from Saranac Lake Jr-Sr High School in 1950. Then attended the State University Teachers College at Oswego and was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Arts. Uncle Edward then enlisted in the Army from 1954-1956 receiving a Good Conduct Medal and stayed in as a reservist until 1962 at which time he received an honorable discharge. During his service career he was stationed in Germany and earned the highest of clearance to confidential and SECRET documents. Uncle Edward then went to Syracuse University and earned a Masters in Administration.

Uncle Edward took a job in the Scotia-Glenville’s school district as an industrial arts instructor and later became the Assistant Principle of Scotia-Glenville Junior High school and retired after 20 years. He then moved back to Saranac Lake to be with his parents on Virginia St. In 1986, his niece Angela (Dukett) Moody moved in with him and he assisted with her educational development until 1999 when she left for Plattsburgh State University to earn her Teaching Degree.

In his younger years, he loved to go to Follensby Clear where he spent many summers enjoying the outdoors when he was on break from school. He also enjoyed going for boat rides, sitting on the front porch watching people drive by, taking his niece’s dog Briscoe for a walk and car ride and anything involving his niece, Angela.

Uncle Edward went through a traumatic medical event seven years ago, then moved in with his niece and her husband Jack in Tupper Lake, NY where he lived until his passing. Uncle Ed is preceded in death by both of his parents, three brothers’; Robert (Bob), Bill (Hooker), Pat and one sister Mary. He is survived by his brother Raymond (Gus) and many nieces and nephews including his niece Angela her husband Jack and his pal Briscoe.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Monday July 22, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 3:00 PM with Rev. Martin Cline with a burial immediately to follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear, NY.
