Kathryn M. Downs, age 83, of Roosevelt Lane, Bloomingdale NY died Friday, October 02, 2009 at her home.
Born in Onchiota, New York on February 12, 1926, she was the daughter of William and Constance (Muncil) Patnode.
Mrs. Downs attended the one room school house in Vermontville, NY and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1944. She later attended Bellevue School of Nursing at Bellevue Hospital in New York City where she worked as a Nurse Cadet and became a Registered Nurse when she graduated from there in 1947. Mrs. Downs worked for 20 years as an RN at New York State TB Hospital at Ray Brook, NY. She stayed on there when it became a drug rehabilitation hospital and continued on there when it became Camp Adirondack of the NYS Corrections Department. She retired in 1981. Mrs. Downs did volunteer work for and attended the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother William Patnode and infant daughter Virginia Sue Hall. She married Ralph H. Hall on November 22, 1947. They were divorced in 1963. She later married Ernest Downs on August 8, 1963. He predeceased her on February 12, 1990.
She is survived by four daughters Linda L. Hall of Palm Beach Shores, FL, Nancy L. Stover of Saranac Lake, NY, Susan M. Hall of Palm Coast, FL, and Mary K. Blizinski and her husband Mark of Watervliet, NY, one son Eric J. Downs of Brooklyn, NY, one step son Ernest Downs, Jr., three grandchildren Erin Masimore, Katie Stiles and Brandon Hall; two step-granddaughters Carol Downs and Kathryn Dean; two step great granddaughters, Lincoln and Sydney Downs and her sister-in-law Mary Jane Patnode of Moria, NY.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM.. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday October 8, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Maggie McCarey officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
