Gloria Downs-Bauer

May 3, 1931 — October 26, 2009

The family of Gloria Downs-Bauer would like to honor the memory of their beloved mother, who passed away on October 26. Gloria was the daughter of William and Georgiana Parker Quirk and one of six children. She was married to Herman, our beloved father, in September of 1953 and had eight children, plus countless other kids she cared for. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, and her second husband, Russ Bauer.

Mom was a wonderful, caring person who always helped when asked and always had a smile for us when we were down. She enjoyed dancing, music and cookie jars. Mom was a woman of boundless compassion and driving strength who believed in her family, her faith, and herself. She was active in the Catholic Daughters and Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and other clubs.

She is survived by her eight children: Elaine Cave, Karen Boyer, Nancy Borden, Bill Downs, Mike Downs, Steve Downs, Cindy Downs and A.J.

Allen, plus her grandchildren Tommy Cave, Kelson Boyer, Kristi Tilberis, Kerri Borden, Chad Lonkey, Robbie Downs, Joshua Downs, Laura Bowen, Caleb Downs, Mikayla Downs, Jadrik Downs, Brianna Allen and Devin Allen, and two great grandchildren.

We will miss her as long as we all live, but we believe she is in a place where there is no more pain or anguish and we are happy for her.

Calling hours will take place on Wednesday October 28, 2009 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Catholic Daughters prayer service will take place Wednesday evening at 6:45 PM. A VFW Ladies Auxiliary Service will immediately follow. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Friday October 30, 2009 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Internment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Gabriels.

Friends wishing to remember Mrs. Downs-Bauer can make memorial contributions to the High Peaks Hospice or the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
