Grace Douglass

Grace Douglass, age 84, of Fletcher, NC and formerly of Saranac Lake died Friday, January 28, 2011 at the Park Ridge Hospital in Hendersonville, NC.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 01, 1926, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Harmer) VanCour.

She married Kenneth Douglass on June 3, 1947 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake. He predeceased her October 29, 1979. Grace had worked as a registered nurse at the Saranac Lake General Hospital for several years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard, St. Bernard's Choir, volunteered for the Saranac Lake Free Library and was a member of the Women's Civic Chamber. She also worked as a teaching aide in Fletcher, N.C.

She is survived by her daughter Suzanne Peck and her husband Gregory of Lake Clear, NY, one granddaughter Jill Jones and her husband Donald of Saranac Lake NY, one great grandson, Connor Jones, one brother Stanley VanCour and his wife Millie of Lake Placid, NY, one sister-in-law Jackie VanCour of Florida and her dear friend Terry Browne of Fletcher, NC and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one daughter Roxanne Douglass and 6 brothers Ralph, Ernest, Bernard, Edmond, Thomas and Ronald VanCour. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday February 3, 2011, at St. Bernard’s Church with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery in Lake Clear in May.
