Violet Dora, age 70, of Saranac Lake, died Thursday, November 14, 2019 surrounded by her family.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on June 1, 1949, she was the daughter of Hubert and Grace (Ratelle) St. John. Violet, married Robert Dora, Sr. on September 17, 1966 at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake.
Violet worked as a chambermaid for many years for several area hotels including Gauthiers Motel in Saranac Lake and the Lake Placid Lodge. She was an avid fisherman and loved to camp with her family. Violet loved her dogs dearly, especially Cha Cha.
She is survived by her husband Robert, one son Robert (Shannon) Dora, Jr. of Lake Clear and one daughter Margaret (Michael) Harding of North Myrtle Beach, SC, four grandchildren Savannah (Timothy) Stewart, Kayla Latham, Samantha Dora and Kyle (McKayla) Dora, six great grandchildren, Maiya, Aubrey, Aria, Dawson, Khloey, and Gracelynn, four sisters Margaret Kilburn of Saranac Lake, Patricia (Bobby) Ecret of Saranac Lake, Terry (Chris) Isele of FL and Heidi Coventry of Nashville, TN, one brother Raymond St. John of Saranac Lake and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers Arthur St. John, and Hubert St. John, Jr.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday November 22, 2019. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 6:00 PM with Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. A reception will follow at the Saranac Lake Moose Club. The family asks that you wear flannel shirts and jeans in honor of Violet to Fridays service. Burial will take place in St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear in the spring.
