Elizabeth "Betty" L. Dora, age 90, of 41 Fawn Street, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Adirondack Medical Center
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on September 17, 1924, she was the daughter of Lauriston and Mildred B. (Nesbit) Lunan. Betty married Arlington Dora on June 7th , 1947 at St. Bridget’s Church, Trout River, NY. He predeceased her on March 31, 1973.
Betty was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and had been employed at the Grand Union for over 20 years as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1988. She is a charter member of the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber, volunteered for meals on wheels, served on the St. Bernard’s School Board of Education and Mothers Club. Betty was a member of St. Bernard’s parish and served as Eucharistic minister at the hospital. She also volunteered and provided hot meals for the ice palace workers for many years and was chosen as Queen of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival in 1975.
She is survived by three sons William Dora and his wife Ginger of Saranac Lake, Richard Dora and his wife Peggy of Bloomingdale, Raymond Dora and his wife Donna of Saranac Lake, three daughters Lynn Stratz and her husband Steve of Tempe, AZ, Kareen Tyler and her husband James of Saranac Lake and Carol Sawyer and her husband Gordon of Rainbow Lake, two brothers James Lunan and wife Cora of __Schertz____, TX and Kenneth Lunan and his wife Helen of Brushton, one sister Patricia Cartier and her husband Raymond of Ft. Covington, 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother , two brothers Robert, and William Lunan, one sister Shirley Carmody, and her randson Seth Arlington Sawyer.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday February 4, 2015 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.
