John C. Dewyea, age 64, of 24 Sunset, Tupper Lake, died Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home.
Born in Oahu, Hawaii on June 29, 1946, he was the son of John and Gertrude (Clark) Dewyea, Sr. He married Pauline Levesque on October 29, 1966 in Tupper Lake, NY.
Mr. Dewyea had been employed by the New York State Department of Corrections from 1980 to 2003 as a Corrections Officer, serving as the Fire Safety Officer at Adirondack Correctional Facility for the 13 years until his retirement in 2003. Following his retirement he had worked as a Park Ranger at the Fish Creek Camp Grounds for 3 seasons. He is a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1963 to 1965 as a Parachute Rigger. Mr. Dewyea was a member of the Tupper Lake Moose Club, Potsdam Elks Club, past member of Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department Company 5, member and past Commander of the Tupper Lake VFW and member of the American Legion. Mr. Dewyea loved golfing and living in Florida 6 months of the year. He especially loved and immensely enjoyed his two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Pauline Dewyea of Tupper Lake, NY, his mother Gertrude Dewyea and mother in law Lucille Levesque of Tupper Lake , 3 children John P. Dewyea of Vermontville, NY, Mark Dewyea of Tupper Lake, NY, and Darcy Turcotte and her husband David of Tupper Lake, NY, two granddaughters Morgan Marie and Kelsey Rose Dewyea both of Tupper Lake, NY, two sisters Ruthie Dewyea and Lisa (Mark) Reed of Tupper Lake, NY, six brothers Dave (Sidonna), Ricky, Jamie and Danny all of Tupper Lake, NY, Terry of Florida, Michael (Michelle) of Rocklin, California, his brother in law Gary (Linda) Levesque of Tupper Lake He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Also surviving is his beloved cat Tyrone. He was preceded in death by his father John Dewyea, Sr and father in law Paul Levesque.
Calling hours will take place at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday October 21, 2010 at St. Alphonsus Church with Fr. Ray Moreau & Fr. Victor Lamore celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
