George "Jitters" Denis was received into the loving arms of the Lord on October 22, 2012.
He was born in Tupper Lake on April 5, 1929. He graduated from Tupper Lake High School (1948) where he was captain of the track and football team. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Lamica at St. Alphonsus Church on June 2, 1951. George was a loving and adored husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
George worked for Major Day before he and his wife Joan owned and operated Denis’ IGA for seventeen years. Later he worked for Sunmount DDSO.
George was a devoted Catholic, and loved spending time with his family. His hobbies included working in his garden and collecting old bottles and coins. He was an animal and nature lover and enjoyed taking hikes with his grandchildren. He had a witty sense of humor, a wicked sweet tooth, and always worried about the antics of his brood of 13.
George is predeceased by his beautiful wife Joan with whom he spent 58 years of marriage. George is survived by his son Randy Denis and his wife Theresa of Tupper Lake; his daughter Theresa Perrone and her husband Robert of Cary, N.C.; his son Greg Denis and his wife Linda of Gansevoort; his son Scott Denis of Potsdam; his daughter Ronni Travers and her husband Jeff of Glenville; his daughter Donna Alvestad and her husband Peter of Middletown, Md.; his daughter Sue Reandeau and her husband Daniel of Tupper Lake; his daughter Paula Tuthill and her husband Dale of Vermontville; his daughter Becky Moeller and her husband Richard of Tupper Lake; his daughter Diane Denis of Tupper Lake; his son Jeff Denis and his girlfriend Penny Arsenault of Tupper Lake; his son Steve Denis and his wife Barbara of Tupper Lake; his son Eric Denis and his wife Kristy of Tupper Lake; grandchildren: Shawn Denis, Danielle Denis-DeVirgles, Renee Denis, Sarah Perrone, David Denis, Kyle Denis, Casey Denis, Stefanie Travers, Alyssa (Alvestad)Hamil, Christopher Alvestad, Benjamin Alvestad, Justin Reandeau, Jessica (Reandeau)Trombley, Brooke Reandeau, Cody Reandeau, Karyssa Tuthill, Amanda Moeller, Jacob Moeller, Drew Denis, Claire Denis, Lauren Denis, Kirsten Denis, Hayley Denis and Charlie Denis; and 11 great-grandchildren and counting.
His is also survived by his sisters Nancy (William) Schlett, Patricia Eggsware and Eleanor Johns and bothers Alfred and Ronald Denis and brothers-in-law Wilbur (Jr) Lamica and Ronald Lamica and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents George, Sr. and Laurenda LaLonde Denis, his sisters, Ruth LaComb, Gertrude D’Arienzo, Theresa Bourdon, his brothers, Joseph, Kenneth and Edward Denis.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 24 from 4p-7pm at Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Tupper Lake. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:00am at St. Alphonsus Church followed by a gathering at the Knights of Columbus.
