Long-time Saranac Lake resident Dies at 100

Iola G. Dellaquila, age 100, formerly of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake and more recently of the Keene Valley Neighborhood House, died following a brief illness Friday, April 01, 2011 at the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

Born in Brasher Falls, New York on June 29, 1910, she was the daughter of William and Mary (Bilow) Rousseau. Iola, married US Navy veteran Ralph J. Dellaquila on October 6, 1942. He predeceased her on March 20, 1990.

Iola had been employed in Saranac Lake at various TB Cottages and later worked as a waitress at Bob Bouck's Sandwich Shop in the 1930's. While in New York City she worked for Armstrong's Printing Co. and later at a defense plant. She returned to Saranac Lake with her husband in 1979. While in Saranac Lake, she did volunteer work for the Adult Center until age 98 and St. Bernard's Church.

She is survived by one daughter Ellen Banville of Keystone Heights, FL. Five Grandchildren Cathy Winters, Daniel & Ramma Winters, Vincent Banville Jr., Anna Marie & Matthew Stone, Barbara & Gary Whiteneck, Six Great Grandchildren Patrick and Kelly Donohue, John Main, Keri Ann and Joshua Whiteneck, Danielle and Matthew Stone. One Great, Great Grandson Dylan Main. Nephew Ray Cassavaugh, Nieces Jodie Mottram, Vivian Owens, Dawn Covell, Teri Harrington, Louella and Valeria Chesbrough. She was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, and Five Sisters Emma Drean, Lilas Chesbrough, Bertha Putnam, Maude Rousseau and Vivian Rosenstein and one Brother Louis Rousseau.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday April 6, 2011 at 12:00 P.M. at the Chapel in St. Bernard's Church. Burial will take place at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.
