Ethel May DeLair, age 98, of 5 Victor Ave., Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at her home.
Born in Tupper Lake, New York on August 01, 1910, she was the daughter of William and Emma (Beauharnois) DeLair.
Ms. DeLair attended Holy Ghost Academy and graduated from Tupper Lake High School Class of 1928. She later attended and graduated from Albany Business College. She was a lifelong resident of Tupper Lake and had been employed a a Secretary for 46 years at Sunmount DDSO. She had worked her last 20 years as the Managers Secretary there until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the BPW and had served as their secretary for many years. She was also a member of the Tupper Lake Adult Center and had delivered Meals on Wheels and had volunteered at the Tupper Lake Food Pantry. She enjoyed golfing and bowling.
She is survived by one brother William DeLair and his wife Audrey of Tupper Lake, NY; one niece Rosanne Davies and her husband Michael of Tupper Lake; two nephews Gary DeLair and his wife Karla of Lee, MA and Charles DeLair and his wife Ann of Overland Parks, KS, 4 great nephews, 2 great nieces, 4 great-great nephews and 1 great-great niece. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and her sister Edna Utting.
Calling hours will take place at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, July 16, 2009 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Church on Friday July 17, 2009, with Rev. Kris Lauzon officiating. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake.
