Tupper Lake- Dorothy Jean Delair, 77, of 339 Park Street, Tupper Lake passed away Friday morning at the Mercy Health Care Center surrounded by her loving family after a two year courageous battle with cancer. Born in Tupper Lake, May 11, 1932, the daughter of Lawrence and Eva (Proulx) Churco. Dorothy attended local schools and married Roger Delair on September 9, 1952. He pre-deceased her in 1969.
Dorothy worked for the Franklin County Department of Social Services and NYS Sunmount DDSO. After retirement she was involved in the Foster Grandparent Program for several years at the Tupper Lake High School working in the guidance office. She was a mentor to many students. She had the loving but direct approach for helping students become organized.
She is survived by three children, Michael and his wife Jane of Homer N.Y., Jan Gallo of Tupper Lake, and Christopher and his wife Michelle of Tupper Lake. Three sisters: Betty Varden, Pat Bedore and Charlotte Russell of Tupper Lake. Two brothers Warren Churco of Tupper Lake and James Churco of Maryland. She also had 9 grandchildren, Amy, Jeremiah, Jamie Lee, Samantha, Benjamin, Nichole, Joshua, Roger Lee, and Rebecca and 5 great grandchildren, Grace, Parker, Dominic, Kaedance, and Connor
She was predeceased by her husband Roger, her father Lawrence Churco and her mother Eva (Proulx) Churco. As well as two sisters, Thelma Kanehr, and Priscilla LaRocque and two brothers, Benjamin Churco, John Churco and a grandson Adam Gallo.
Funeral arrangements are in care of Stuart- Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Calling hours were held Sunday 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.
