Gary Daby

January 9, 1949 — September 12, 2013

Gary F. Daby, born January 9, 1949, the son of Rosetta Marion Kimball Daby and Francis A. Daby, passed on Thursday September 12, 2013 at home peacefully with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer

Mr. Daby graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army from 1971 to 193 as art of the 483rd MP Pit - 7th Air Clvery First Division. He was proud to serve in General Custer’s famous Unit. Mr. Daby received the Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service and the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity during his service.

Gary owned and operated Adirondack Services here in Lake Placid for 39 years before turning the business over to his sons in 2011.

Gary Daby was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed spending as much time as possible in the Adirondack wilderness. He loved boating, hunting and fishing especially when accompanied by his sons and grandsons. Gary cherished the time he spent on his porch, at his home in Lake Placid and at his camp in Sugar Bush, bird watching and playing with his dogs.

Gary is survived by his two sons, Gary Daby (and his wife Emily) of Bloomingdale, and Fran Daby (and his wife Julia) of Lake Placid; two grandsons, Eben Daby of Lake Placid and Gary Daby, III of Bloomingdale; a granddaughter, Anabell Corwin Gray of Lake Placid; a brother Kimball W. Daby (and his wife Patricia); two nephews Mark Daby and Kimball F. Daby (and his wife Heidi); and a great-niece, Maeve Daby all of Lake Placid.

Mr. Daby was a member of the American Legion Post #326, Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, Veteran of Foreign Wars and Disabled Veterans Association.

There will be no calling hours. Due to renovations the fireman’s prayer service and a memorial service with military honors have been moved to St. Agnes Church in L:ake Placid and will take place at 4:00 PM on Wednesday September 18, 2013 with Rev. John Martin officiating. Internment will be at the convenience of the family.
