Thomas Cushman

Thomas W. Cushman, age 73, of 31 Willow Way, Saranac Lake, died early Sunday, June 02, 2013 at C.V.P.H Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on October 21, 1939, he was the son of Hugh and Ethel (nee Morgan) Cushman.

Tom was a life long resident of Saranac Lake and was the Regional Vice President of Marine Midland Bank, where he worked for 36 years until his retirement in 1995. Following his retirement, he worked for Blue Line Sports Shop in Saranac Lake for a short time, and then for the New York State DEC for fifteen years, most recently as a Lock Tender at the Lower Saranac Lake Locks. Tom is a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He is a past member of several civic organizations including the Saranac Lake Lions Club and Saranac Lake Rotary Club. Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his camp on Rollins Pond. He was a member of the Adirondack Hunting Club in Follensby Park, where he served as the head chef. Tom was active in youth baseball and soft ball with all his children, as well as the Tri Lakes Black Fly Softball league. .

He is survived by two sons: Alan Cushman and his wife Megan of North Syracuse, and Adam Cushman and his wife Lindsay of Hereford, AZ, four daughters: Angela Cushman and her companion Gregory Ferguson of Vermontville, Amy Cushman of Westville, Amanda Hoeth and her husband Joe of Saranac, and Anne Kubasiak and her husband Randy of Averill Park, nine grandchildren, and one niece, Lisa McGill (nee Poirer). He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Poirer.

Calling hours will take place on Tuesday June 4, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Wednesday June 5, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake, with burial to follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
