Alvin Boyce Connor passed on unexpectedly on the 3rd day of March 2012. He was born in Tupper Lake to Maurice S. and Delia (Madore) Connor on the 2nd day of October 1936 and was the second of five children.
He was known to his family and friends as Humble Al.
He attended school in Tupper Lake and graduated in 1954. He was active in sports, football, Pep Club, Track, Alpha Club, Choir and Baseball.
After graduation he enlisted in the Army Reserves 1955-1956. Shortly after, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1957 and in 1961 he was Honorably Discharged. He took Post Graduate courses from 1957-1963. He worked for a time at the Altamont Dairy.
Alvin married Deborah Bennett Stevenson in Tupper Lake on February 23, 1963. From that union were five children, Matthew, John, Ann, Allison and Sean.
Shortly after they were married they moved to Heber, Arizona, where he was employed as a Sawyer. He returned home to work at the family business, Doc Connor & Sons and Adirondack Plywood and as a bus driver. In 1970 he opened a full service Esso station, which he proudly ran as his Humble Motor Station for 10 years. During these years Humble was busy with his community service. He served as a trustee from 1975 through 1979 and was appointed, than elected Mayor following Donald Smith. He was also active in the Fire Department. He had many accomplishments, Fire Commissioner, Chief, Police Commissioner, Rotarian President and member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by Deborah, their children and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice and Delia Connor and his daughter Allison. He is survived by his siblings and spouses, Marvin and Mary Connor, Calvin and Dian Connor, James and Shirley Connor and Herbert and Patricia (Connor) Pierson and many nieces and nephews.
He was an avid hunter, stamp collector and coin collector, active with canoe racing, cross country ski marathons. He enjoyed bowling and shuffleboard leagues at the VFW. He was a wealth of information, known for remembering people, places and things. When researched, he was proven correct, a great gift.
He worked as a Dairy Farmer in Richfield Springs with relatives for a few years. He returned home where he was employed at Sunmount DDSO as a bus driver mechanic where he retired. Throughout the years, Humble was a sexton at the Lake View Cemetery. Over his 10 years of retirement he has served the VFW in different positions, as a Trustee, Senior Vice, Sargent of Arms, and Life Member of #1268 Adirondack Leathernecks and Life Member of #3120 of VFW.
He also spent those last 10 years caring for his mother after his father passed.
Calling hours will be held on March 15th between 5–7 PM at the Stuart -Fortune- Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 2 pm, Friday, March 16th at St. Alphonsus Church. A gathering will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
