John Collins

John Peter Collins, age 73, a long-time resident of Saranac Lake, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY.

John was born on February 28, 1950 in Jamaica, Queens, NY the son of John McCauley and Rita Ann (Farnum) Collins. He grew up in Freeport, Long Island with his two older siblings, Michael and Mary Ellen.

After graduating from St. John’s College in 1972, John lived in New York City where he ran several youth sports programs for the YMCA, the New York Parks Department, and the Catholic Church. John enjoyed crossword puzzles, listening to NPR, cheering on all New York-based sports teams, and was a great animal lover.

John was a sweet man, a kind soul who would help anyone and was a positive force in every community he lived in. The world was lucky to have a man like John, and his spirit of kindness, understanding, and hope will be shared among us forever.

John is survived by his brother Michael; his daughter Jesselyn and his son Andrew.

John was predeceased by his mother, father and sister.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. A memorial service will be held at the Fortune-Keough funeral home on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 10:00am until 12:00pm. The family invites any who knew John to join them in celebrating his memory. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
