William Collier

March 18, 1933 — May 26, 2010

On May 26th, 2010, William C. "Bill" Collier went home to his heavenly father at Leesburg Regional Hospital North Campus in Florida with family at his side.

He was born in Albany, NY on March 18th 1933, son of Jonas and Bernice Collier. He lived and worked on the family farm in Coxsackie, NY while attending a one-room school house until he entered Athens-Coxsackie High School where he excelled in track high jump. After graduating, Bill entered the Navy and served on the ships, The USS Newport News and The USS Iowa during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he attended and graduated from Paul Smith's College receiving his AA degree. He remained in Saranac Lake where he worked for and owned a Tree Trimming and Landscaping business. He later worked for Paul Smith's Light and Power Company and then continued on as an Electrical Lineman and Foreman for Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation when they took over. He retired in 1991 after 3 decades of service.

For 25 years, Bill belonged to the Pee Wee Hockey Association and spent many long hours sharpening ice skates for local skaters, including the high school and college teams. He was also a big fan of professional hockey. He was a prior member of the BPOE Elks Club, and was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

In 1999, Bill and his wife, Dee, became "Florida Snow Birds" enabling them to spend the hard northern winters down south.

Survivors include his wife of almost 49 years, Janet "Dee" Passno Collier, three sons and their wives: Bill Jr and Brenda of Crown Point, NY, Craig and Barbara, of Saranac Lake, NY, and Richard and Brooke, of Arlington MA; three granddaughters, Shelby Stephens, of Bedford, KY, Sierra and Sydney Collier of Crown Point, NY; three grandsons, Jacob Collier of Crown Point,NY, and Jonas and Reed Collier of Arlington, MA; a sister and her husband, June and Richard Pearce of Marietta, GA, and a brother, Alden "Buddy" Collier of Coxsackie, NY, and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his son, James A. "Jamie" Collier, his parents and a brother,Jonas Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 12th at 11am in St. Bernard's Church with Msgr. C.J. MacAvoy officiating. The family will receive friends and family at 10:15 before Mass. The Fortune-Keough Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
