Dorothy E. Colby, age 90, of Saranac Lake, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake with her family by her side.
Born in Gloversville, New York on February 23, 1927, she was the daughter of Frank and Maddie (Baker) Stewart. Dorothy married Franklin Colby, Sr. on 12/18/1952 at the First United Methodist church in Johnstown, NY. Frank predeceased her in 1969.
Dorothy worked at various area hotels and businesses including the Mirror Lake Inn and the Lake Placid Club in Lake Placid. She served as a Senior Companion at North Star Industries for over 15 years. She also spent many years as a volunteer at the Saranac Lake Adult Center and the foster grandparent program at Saranac Lake Headstart.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved music, talking on the phone, car rides and shopping.
She is survived by three sons Frank (Trudi Siddell) Colby of Saranac Lake, Robert L. (Elizabeth) Colby of Ellenburg Depot, and John Colby of Elizabethtown, two sisters Margaret Stewart of Johnstown and Nina Stewart of Utica, four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren , Joshua (Alicia Perry) Colby and their children Kaydance, Dale and Cameron , Sarah Colby and her children Mehki and Amerie, Stephanie Colby and her children Jaden and Brynn , Kathleen Ecker and her daughter Jatie , several nieces and nephews and many close family friends including Ryan Siddell , Nathan Siddell and Sharon Gribble. She was preceded in death by two brothers John and Frank Stewart, one sister Margarete Stewart and one great grandson Jordan Snyder.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid in the spring.
