TUPPER LAKE
Robert Chartier, 79, of 21 Front Street, Tupper Lake, NY passed away on February 10, 2012 at his family home with his loving wife Jeanette of 58 years by his side.
Bob was born on March 31st, 1932 in Tupper Lake, the son of George & Juliet Chartier. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Clayton, Rita, Lillian, Bernard and Kenneth.
Bob loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially at the family camp he built on Gordan Pond. He enjoyed Big Band Music and dancing. He spent much of his time outdoors, fishing, swimming, skating, skiing and walking. He was a talented craftsmen and woodworker.
A proud volunteer fireman he served for 24 years and was a past Fire Chief. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served in the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sergeant.
Bob started his career in construction with WC Johnson. In 1970 he opened CEL Lumber Company with partners Phil Edwards and Don LaBarge, together they ran a successful business for 23 years before retiring in 1993.
Bob is survived by his wife Jeanette, and 4 children; Mike and Mary (Root) Chartier; Scott and Mary (Tice) Chartier, Michelle and Tom LaMere and Lisa Augustine all of Tupper Lake. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren – Melissa (Brian); Meggan (Chad); Kara (Jason); Zach (Jenna); Jake; Allie (Matt); Rob; Erin (Ed); Ryan (Cheryl) and James (Kate). 10 great-grandchildren; Zoe, Avry, Peyton, Sloan, Camden, Logan, Dillon, Kaya, Hunter & Jude.
