TUPPER LAKE-Paul A. Charland, 79, of Boyer Ave. Tupper Lake passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Adirondack Medical Center surrounded by his wife and family following a brief illness. Born December 15, 1932 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Harry and Lena (Trudeau) Charland. Paul graduated from Holy Ghost Academy and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea during the Korean war. Returning from service, he began his career at Sunmount Veterans Administration Hospital in 1959 then continued at Sunmount DDSO as an Occupational Therapy Aide. While employed at Sunmount, Paul continued his education at North Country Community College. He retired in 1989 after 30 years service. On October 24, 1959 he married the former Barbara June Peets at St. Alphonsus church. Paul enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a long-time member of the River Ridge Hunting Club in Tupper Lake. Paul's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, two daughters; Paula Lanthier and her husband Kevin of Saranac Lake, Cynthia Sweeney and her husband John of Saranac Lake, one son Patrick and his wife Kathleen of Milford, CT, grandchildren, Will Lanthier, Nicholas and Madison Sweeney and Camden Charland. Also surviving is a brother Herman and his wife Irene of Tupper Lake. He was pre-deceased by his parents, a sister Charlotte Peets and an infant brother Harold. Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th from 3 to 6 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in May.
