Catherine Agnes Muir

Mrs. Catherine Agnes Muir, age 101, formerly of Sugarbush, NY, died Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid. 

Born in New York City, New York on September 27, 1923, she was the daughter of Joseph M. and Catherine (Quigley) Messemer Kelly. Catherine married James A. Muir on June 10, 1944 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in New York City. Together they raised their five daughters in Dobbs Ferry, NY. Catherine and Jim moved to the Adirondacks after their retirement. 

Catherine worked as an Administrative Assistant for CIBA-Geigy in Ardsley, NY for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale. Catherine enjoyed gardening, crocheting, crossword puzzles, Bingo and spending time with her family. 

Catherine is survived by her five daughters; Margaret (James) Bongiorno of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, Catherine (Edward) Mackasek of Pelham, NY, Patricia (Jeff) Otaegui of Egg Harbor Twp, NJ, JoAnne (Thomas) McCoy of New Fairfield, CT and Dorothy Brown of Sugarbush, NY. 

Catherine was the beloved Yaya to her grandchildren Jacqueline (Joseph) Cinotti, James (Audra) Bongiorno, Susan (Jared) McCall, Michael (Eirini) Otaegui, Mark (Celina) Otaegui, Keith (Reyanin) Brown, Todd (Patricia) Brown and Sarah (Kyle) Kirby and her great grandchildren Ashley Bongiorno, Logan Brown, James Bongiorno, Quinn McCall, Jack Brown, Callie McCall, Luke McCall, Stella Brown, Makenzie Otaegui and Marcelino Otaegui. 

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband James A, her father and mother Joseph Messemer and Catherine (Quigley) Messemer Kelly, her stepfather Edward S. Kelly, her brothers James, Joseph and

Thomas, her sister Margaret Gonzalez, her son-in-law: Keith (Andy) Brown, her grandson Eric Brown and her great grandson Joseph Anthony Cinotti. 

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernard’s Church, Saranac Lake, NY at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
