Thomas Callahan

April 30, 1937 — April 28, 2011

Thomas M. Callahan of Bloomingdale, recently of Oxnard, CA passed away on April 28, 2011, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Thomas was born on April 30, 1937 in Port Henry, New York. Thomas attended school at St. Bernard’s and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1957. He married Margaret A. Rice in 1958 in Saranac Lake. They were married for 14 years and had three children. Thomas later married Jo Ellen Stearns of Saranac lake and they had one child.

Thomas started his career as a meat cutter at Swift and Packing Co., then becoming the meat Department manager at A & P Company, and finished off at Doty’s Meat Market where he retired. As a child Thomas loved horses, and enjoyed barrel jumping. He also loved playing and coaching hockey. As he got older he loved collecting guns and hunting. His most enjoyment out of life, though, was spending time with his family.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan and Marion Callahan, and is survived by his former wives, Margaret Durney and JoEllen Callahan, his two sisters Pat Bleeker, and Mary Ritour and his brother James Callahan. His four children, Teresa (Craig) Chevaller, Elizabeth (Eric) Ohmann, Thomas Callahan, Jr. and Kathleen (Kyle) Bauerlien. His ten grandchildren, Adriane (Bob) Stickney, Carey (Joe Arnold) Neese, Kelly Neese, Mathew, Joshua (Tierra), Michael and Jessica Ohmann, Tyler Callahan, Mckale and Abigale Bauerlien and his four great grandchildren Evan and Owen Arnold, Alaina and Elijah Ohmann.

Calling hours are set to take place from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Friday May 20, 2011 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery.

Tom will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and are invited to attend a gathering of family and friends at the Fish and Game Club following the burial. Family and friends are also invited to share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuenralhome.com.
