Victor Burman

July 24, 1937 — January 6, 2023

Victor C. Burman, 85, of Vermontville, passed away on January 6, 2023 at Meadowbrook Health Care in Plattsburgh.

Born in 1937, he was the second son of Margaret L Ayotte and Richard C Burman.

At age 25, Victor was drafted into the military, and while stationed in Pennsylvania, met and married his wife, Donna Hilliard. After completing his service, he returned to Saranac Lake with Donna and together raised a family in a home they designed and built themselves (with a little help from friends and family). Victor and Donna recently celebrated 59 years of togetherness.

He is survived by his wife and two children, Kim (longtime partner-Susan) and Dale (wife-Geniene) and a grandson, Quinn. He was predeceased by his older brother Richard (wife-Lil) and is survived by five siblings: Susanne (husband-Dick), Gordon (wife-Louise), Ross (wife-Barbara), Alice (husband-Mike), and Tom (wife-Diane) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

As a teenager, he apprenticed at Currier Press in Saranac Lake, learning the printing trade and later operating his own printing business out of his home in Vermontville. The Print Shop served many individuals and businesses in the Tri-Lakes area for decades. He also worked for St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation Center as Maintenance Supervisor and eventually retired from the Saranac Lake Central School District as a school bus driver.

Victor had many interests and projects to keep him busy. Always curious about how things were put together and how they worked; he delighted in watching, examining and riding on trains and ships and working with anything mechanical. He enjoyed numerous road trips with his family and traveling the world with Donna during their retirement. Victor particularly loved the ocean, old western shows, movies and music. He loved solving puzzles as well as designing, creating and building with his hands; often building furniture for his home or solving many a dilemma using the resources he found around him. His smile, good nature and wit will be greatly missed.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Saturday January 14th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A brief prayer service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Martin Cline Officiating. Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Vermontville at a later date.

Friends wishing to remember Victor may make memorial contributions to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society or the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their condolences and memories at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
