Tupper Lake- B. James Brown, 85, of 16 High St., Tupper Lake, passed away, Friday, September 25th at the Adironack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born on May 8, 1924 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Robert and Valeda (LaFountain) Brown. Jim was a lifelong resident of Tupper Lake. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1945 and was discharged in 1947 serving in Korea. Upon returning from service, he was employed at Walt Maroun's service station. Later he worked at the Sunshine Store on the corner of Mill and Park St. and became manager. In 1969, he started with the Village of Tupper Lake electric Dept and was a meter reader retiring in 1986. Jim was married to the former Jackie Gagnon in June 1974. He became a member of the T.L.F.D. on October 10,1943 and was a dedicated firemen for over 60 years. During that time he served in every capacity and as Chief of the F.D. from 1969-1970. In 2008 he was honored for 60 yrs of active service. He was also a member of the V.F.W. post 3120, past director of the Tupper Lake Rod and Gun and a long time member of the Tupper Lake Country Club. Jim was also active in various community functions such as Meals on Wheels and Food Pantry. For many years after his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed wintering in Port Charlotte, Florida. He is survived by his wife, one sister Joyce Earle and her husband Robert of Tupper Lake, two brothers, Robert Brown Jr. and his wife Shirley of Tupper Lake, Alan Brown and his wife Joan of Harvest, Alabama and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm with a Fireman's service at 7pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alphonsus church. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus cemetery with full military honors. Memorials in Jim's honor can be made to the Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. Online condolences may be made at www.stuartfortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
