Michael J. Bristol passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 9, 2021 in Middletown, NY.
Known as Mike by all his friends and family, he was born in Saranac Lake on April 8, 1954 the fifth of seven children to Virginia G. and Leonard J. Bristol. Mike attended Saranac Lake High School. His fascination for trains began as a youngster as he watched the daily train from behind the safety of the chain link fence at the William Morris Playpark, waving to the engineer and trainmen as it left the station on Depot St. He amassed a large library of train books and memorabilia and never missed the chance to take a ride on the rails whenever possible. For many years Mike worked at WalMart in Middletown, NY.
Mike had a great talent for sharing a joke and remembering minute details of his childhood. He could vividly recount with accuracy many of the happy and fun times of growing up in the 50s and 60s in his neighborhood on Baker St.
Mike is predeceased by his mother and father, his brother, Kevin and his sister, Kathy. Surviving siblings include his brothers, Dennis and Pamela of Vero Beach, FL and Jim of Bartlett, IL, his sisters, Noreen Oslander and her husband Donald of Madison, CT, and Eileen Leahy and her husband Paul of Saranac Lake. The many nieces and nephews that he leaves behind have fond memories of laughing, joking and horsing around with their Uncle Mike.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, on Tuesday August 17, 2021 from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Martine Cline Officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to share their condolences, a story or leave a memory of Mike at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
