Bernard Bova

July 10, 1942 — February 15, 2011

Bernard "Bernie" F. Bova, age 68, of 8240 State Route 3, Vermontville, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at C.V.P.H Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 10, 1942, he was the son of Elmer and Clara (Shene) Bova. He married Carol Munroe on December 10, 1994 at the Vermontville Church of the Nazarene.

Bernie and his brother Joseph spent 45 years operating the Northern Seed and Cone Company, supplying pinecones and seeds to the State of New York, Vermont and many seed companies to aid in the reforestation efforts for our wilderness. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved nature and also enjoyed feeding and watching the wild birds. Bernie is a past member of the Saranac Lake Moose Club and is a member of the Church of Nazarene in Vermontville.

He is survived by his wife Carol Bova of Vermontville, two daughters Deborah Hickey and her husband Patrick and Patricia Watson, three grandchildren Amanda Watson, Matthew Watson and Katherine (Katie) Hickey, seven step children Kimberly Bickford and her husband Wendall, Sonja Barney and her husband Robert, James Bickford and his wife Heather, Scott Bickford and his wife Jacinta, Andrea Wilcox and her husband Vincent, Omega Bickford, and Megan Wright and her husband Joseph, eleven step grandchildren Christopher Barney, Brittany Barney, Jayke Bickford, Georgia Bickford, Samuel Bickford, Marissa Bickford, Alice Bickford, Lilah Bickford, Madison Wilcox, Jacob Stadtlander, Chloe Wright, and one expected great grandchild, two brothers Joseph Bova and his wife Dora of Saranac Lake, NY, and Roy Bova and his wife Mona of Lake Placid, NY, two sisters Viola Shumway and her husband Charles and Joyce Euber and her husband Christopher, many nieces and nephews and his little buddy "Zeus" Aka "Pepe Le Peu". He was preceded in death by his father, mother and three brothers James, Edward and William "Johnny" Bova.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, February 18, 2011 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 19, 2011 at the Nazarene Church in Vermontville with Pastor David Drake officiating. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery in Vermontville in May.
