Francis J. Blum, age 84, of 27 Rockland Ave, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, November 07, 2010 at the Adirondack Medical Center of Saranac Lake.
Born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on December 20, 1925, he was the son of Francis and Lillian (Piatt) Blum. He married Eleanor M. Walsh on December 27, 1947 in Mary Queen of Heaven Church in Brooklyn. She predeceased him on September 29, 2007.
Mr. Blum worked for Lincoln Mountain Vault in Saranac Lake from 1951-1972. He later did office work for Hyde Fuel from 1972-1979, and worked for Tousley Wine & Liquor Store, until he retired in 1979. He was a veteran of WWII serving four months overseas in the European Theater with the 79th Infantry Division, Company C, 313th Regiment, 2nd Battalion as a rifleman and second scout. He was injured in Waslsum, Germany and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He and Eleanor were both long time members and supporters of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club.
He is survived by many who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, his father Francis Blum, and his mother Lillian Piatt.
Friends are invited to gather at St. Bernard’s Church from 9:00 AM to 9:30AM on Wednesday November 10th. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 9:30 AM at St. Bernard’s Church with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will take place on at 2:00 PM Wednesday afternoon at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
