Lionel Bibeau

Lionel J. Bibeau, 84, of Saranac Lake, passed away on Wednesday September 28, 2016 at his home of 10 Sumner Place with his loving family surrounding him.

Lionel was born in Graniteville, Vermont on April 22, 1932, the son of George Bibeau and Agathe Gingras.

He attended Grade School in Lower Graniteville, VT at St. Sylvester's Holy Ghost School and graduated from Spaulding High School in Barre, Vt. in 1950. Lionel enlisted in the Navy in 1951. He was trained at the Navy Center in Newport RI and assigned to the USS Missouri (BBG3) in the Sixth Division, K. Division (Radar), and First Division. He later transferred to shore duty on the USS Collector in Boston, MA. Lionel was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in May 1955.

Lionel attended the Culinary Institute of America from 1955-1957 with a Basic and Advanced Chef Diploma. Lionel then attended Paul Smith's College from 1957-1959 graduating with an A.A.S. in Hotel Management.

Lionel has survived by his wife, Marilyn "Judy" Bibeau of Saranac Lake, two daughters, Barbara J. Bibeau, of Saranac Lake and Catherine 0 Kane and her husband, Kevin O'Kane, of Springfield, PA; three granddaughters, Corinne O'Kane Hoboken NJ, Kelsey O'Kane of Springfield, PA, and Courtney O'Kane of Springfield, PA; one brother Alcid Bibeau, of Vermont, and two sisters, Gertrude Bibeau, of Vermont and Loretta Caron of Florida; a Nephew, Brian Bibeau and his wife Lori Bibeau of Vermont.

Lionel was a dedicated Husband, Father, and Brother who loved his family dearly. Lionel was an avid oil painter who painted Adirondack scenery for the better part of his life since settling down in Saranac Lake. His oil paintings can be found in the homes of his family and the many friends who touched his life. A painting from Lionel was heartfelt and he gave them away willingly just because he could.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday October 1, 2016 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake.
