Eva E. Bellows, 88
Eva E. Bellows, age 88, died peacefully on Thursday, May 19 following a brief illness.
Born Eva Ethel Gale on January 7, 1923 in Tupper Lake, NY, she was a daughter of Edna V. Mere and Lester B. Gale of that village. She graduated from Tupper Lake High School and married G. Ross Bellows of Burke, NY on April 5, 1942.
During her twenty-eight year marriage she was a homemaker, raising her three children. Following Mr. Bellows death in 1969 she worked summers as a cook at Wenonah Lodge on Upper Saranac Lake, and during the school year as Assistant Cook at L.P. Quinn Elementary School, retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Bellows enjoyed a variety of sports throughout her lifetime including fishing and bowling. An avid golfer, she was for many years active in the Ladies’ Twilight League at the Tupper Lake Country Club and achieved the title of Women’s Club Champion several times during the 1970’s.
Mrs. Bellows is survived by one daughter, Donna and her husband David Jacobs of this village; two sons: David of Hanover, New Hampshire, and Scott of Baltimore, Maryland; four grandchildren: Darnell (Jacobs) and her husband Daniel Jurgensen of Matamoras, Pennsylvania; Devon Jacobs and his wife Meredith of Cadyville; Damist (Jacobs) and her husband James Lavoie of Peru; and Damon Jacobs of Saranac Lake; five great-grandchildren, three nieces and six nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bellows was predeceased by three sisters: Ellen Boyer, Edith (DeShaw) Leonard, and Beatrice DeLoria.
The Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave. in Tupper Lake, with Visitation beginning one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Mrs. Bellows are invited to make memorial contributions in her name to High Peaks Hospice, North Country Life Flight, Inc., or the charity of their choice.
