Sandra L. Beede, age 66, formerly of Saranac Lake and currently of Creek Road, Champlain, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, May 03, 2012.
Born in Saranac Lake, New York on July 14, 1945, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gertrude (Vosburgh) Daphnis.
Sandra had a long and distinguished work history, starting as a Nurses Aide at Saranac Lake General Hospital and ending her career with them as an LPN. She was a planner and overseer for HUD in Saranac Lake, and was accepted into the New York State Department of Corrections, graduating as the only female in her class. After leaving corrections she worked in the building trades industry, first at Woodbury's Lumber and then managing the family company, Beede's Remodeling and Construction. She finished her working career as a computer programmer for the Grand Union Corporation and retired in 2001.
Sandra enjoyed arts and crafts, always making wonderful sweaters, shawls, hats and mittens for her family members and close friends. Her passion after retirement was her home, and reveled in remodeling, decorating, and landscaping.
She is survived by one daughter Michelle Peckham of Clifton Park, NY, two sons Michael Beede and his wife Ann Leduc of Champlain, NY, and Justin Beede of Champlain, NY, four sisters Gail Farley of Bloomingdale, NY, Angela LaPierre of Saranac Lake, NY, Linda Roy of AuSable Forks, NY, and Mary Hare of Saranac Lake, NY, one brother Brian Reed of Lewis, NY, two grandchildren Victoia and Joseph Beede and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Monday May 7, 2012 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
