George Bedore

George Bedore, age 88, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his home in Saranac Lake.

Born in Tupper Lake, New York on October 27, 1923, he was the son of Romeo and Harriet (LaBarge) Bedore. He married Eleanor Slattery on April 10, 1948 in St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake.

Mr. Bedore is a life long resident of the area and was employed as a Park Supervisor /Landfill coordinator for the Village of Saranac Lake for 31 years until his retirement. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the Medical Detachment, 716 Tank Battalion as a Litter Bearer serving in Luzon, New Guinea and Southern Philippines. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was also a member of the Army National Guard in Saranac Lake. Mr. Bedore is a lifetime member of the Saranac Lake VFW Post 3357. As a member of the VFW he was the driver for Gold Star Mothers for 17 years and was responsible for brining back the American Flag to the World War I Memorial in Saranac Lake after 80 years, for which he received a letter of thanks from Betty Little. Mr. Bedore worked with the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce doing Christmas decorations, providing amplifier and music at the Fish and Game Club for Hamner Boat Races. He supervised making the largest man made ice skating rink at Petrova Field where they held the North American and Eastern Seaboard speed skating races, and the world's Barrel Jumping competition with Irving Jaffee. Mr. Bedore also drove many celebrities and local officials in the Winter Carnival Parades. He was the Indian in the Fred Sullivan's movie- "The Beer Drinkers Guide to Fitness and Filmmaking.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor Bedore of Saranac Lake, NY, one daughter and son-in-law Deborah Groh and her husband Richard of Saranac Lake, NY, one sister Yvonne LaPointe of Tonawanda, NY, one grandson Michael Timko and his wife Janine of Glens Falls, NY, one granddaughter Heidi Dybas and husband Matthew of Glens Falls, three great granddaughters Lilly and Olivia Dybas and Maria Timko all of Glens Falls, NY, one great grandson Collin Dybas Glens Falls, NY, and several nieces and nephews, including Glenn and David Bedore of Tupper Lake, NY. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, his infant son Gary John Bedore, two brothers Fred and Romeo "Tom" Bedore, and two sisters Ruby Parisien and Gladys Blair.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. A veteran memorial service will take place at 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow with Deacon Daniel Slattery officiating. Burial will take place in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
